Long Island Children’s Writers and Illustrators Making Strides Bringing Literacy to Young Readers

Hello PTA’s! Here’s a program worth looking into. Promote Literacy. Link this to your PARP program.

It’s been said, “Reading is Fundamental”. With Common Core and raising the literacy standards of our students in the forefront of the list of concerns for parents and teachers alike, here is a fun way to promote reading, making it not a task, but a life-long pastime.

What is an Author/Illustrator Night? An Author/Illustrator Night is an opportunity to spark your children’s interest in reading by allowing them to meet the names behind the cover and title of the books they read. Several of Long Island Children’ Writers and Illustrators’ (LICWI) published members will visit a school or library for a “meet and greet” in a fair-like setting, while selling and signing books.
What is LICW? Visit the website for more information about the members, and what they do.

Long Island Children’s Writers and Illustrators (LICWI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of writing and illustrating children’s literature. We support, guide and nurture budding authors and illustrators as well as established authors and illustrators. Our goal is to create quality works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry that educate, entertain, and inspire children of all ages.
