Severed Head Found In Hollywood Hills Park

Los Angeles police have confirmed a human head was discovered Tuesday in the Bronson Canyon Park in Hollywood Hills. The discovery was made shortly before 4 p.m. by two women walking about nine dogs on a trail below the Hollywood sign. The head rolled out of a plastic bag when two of the dogs began playing with the bag.

"Two of the dogs began to play with the bag and what appeared to be an object. While the dogs were playing with it, at some point the object came out of the bag and they discovered that it was a head — a severed head," Sgt. Mitzi Fierro told a CBS affiliate KCAL-TV.

The women notified park rangers who then contacted authorities. The head appears to belong to a male in his 40s or 50s. Fierro said there are “not a lot of signs of decomposition yet,” so the head was likely not in the area for long before it was found. The coroner will try to identify the victim using dental records.

Police are guarding the crime scene. The rest of the victim’s body has not been found.
