Blake Shelton Cancels Tour Dates After Dad’s Death

Country singer Blake Shelton has canceled four tour dates this week in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana due to the death of his father, Dick Shelton. Dick was surrounded by family when he died Tuesday evening in Oklahoma. The cause of death is unclear, but Dick’s health had been declining over the past year. He was treated for pneumonia in early December and Blake, 35, acknowledged his condition in an acceptance speech at the 2011 American Country Awards on December 5.

"I want to say hi to my dad back home ... he's been having a pretty rough couple of weeks, and I know he's watching tonight," Shelton said. "I love you, Dad, and I dedicate this to you, man. Thank you."

In a message on his website, Shelton thanked fans for their support while he grieves for his father. “I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time and thank you for all your prayers. Your support means the world to me. I love you guys,” he wrote.

Shelton’s canceled tour dates have been rescheduled for March. He will resume touring on Thursday, January 26 in Columbus, Georgia.
