Former Miss USA has her day on court over DUI

Former Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih appeared in court Wednesday to answer to DUI charges she received in December of last years. Lawyers for both sides have stated they may be able to reach a plea deal.

If they are unable to reach a plea, Fakih’s lawyer said they are ready to face the court. In some circumstances a DUI attorney can make a deal with prosecutors to avoid incarceration and other harsh penalties.

Fakih was arrested last December after an officer observed her weaving in and out of traffic without using her turn signal. Her arresting officer noticed an open bottle of champagne in the backseat of her Jaguar. At the time of her arrest her blood alcohol level was .19, twice the legal limit for most states.

Fakih made history as the first Arab-American to win the Miss USA pageant. She has been the subject of more than one controversy since she one the title. Photos surfaced shortly after she got the crown of her participating in a pole dancing competition in 2007.

Then she got the DUI. DUIs have serious penalties including incarceration, loss of driving privileges and steep fines, but a DUI lawyer can help the accused avoid some of the harshest penalties.

No one should try to fight an intoxicated driving charge without help. An experienced DUI attorney can negotiate to have charges reduced and minimize the possible penalties.
