Governor Chris Christie has been making some measures to keep residents from fleeing the state. And has decided to not only reduce state income tax, but may also eliminate a tax placed on cosmetic enhancements like Botox and
liposuction.
A survey conducted by CouponCabin showed that more people would have plastic surgery if the cost was not an issue. Many people would have that
liposuction procedure if it was a little cheaper or if they had a coupon.
Now in New Jersey cosmetic procedures may get a little less expensive, the New Jersey legislature has voted to eliminate the 6 percent surtax, aptly referred to as the “Botax.”
NPR reported that in the past the measure to eliminate the cosmetic surgery tax was vetoed by then Governor Jon Corzine, who recently ran his investment bank MF Global into bankruptcy. Now Governor Christie has to sign off on the bill, but it is unclear if he will.
The idea is to keep people from leaving the state to have their breast augmentation or
liposuction. The cosmetic surgery tax generates about $10 million in revenue, which is used to pay hospitals that provide charitable care. The Governor may be cautious about passing the bill.
Since New Jersey is one of the few states that have such a tax, residents can take a short drive and get plastic surgery for a bit cheaper in a neighboring state.
