The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at the Kandahar International Airport in southern Afghanistan on Thursday. Local authorities say at least 7 people were killed and 8 others were wounded when the bomber drove a car up to an entry checkpoint and detonated his explosives.
All seven of the dead were civilians. Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the suicide bomber was targeting a NATO convoy. Ahmadi claimed several coalition troops were among the dead, but NATO officials denied the claims.
Thursday’s attack followed two separate explosions in Helmand province on Wednesday. The first attack happened in the Kajaki district and claimed 12 lives. More than 20 people were injured. The second explosion occurred in the Nad Ali district and left an intelligence official and three others dead.
