The Dangerous Drug Attorneys at Greg Coleman Law, PC are here to defend mothers whose children have been affected by Zoloft-based birth defects.  Mothers who used Zoloft while pregnant and delivered children with birth defects may have a dangerous drug case.  These individuals, with the assistance of a Zoloft attorney, may be able to file a claim for their children’s birth defects.  There is a time limit to Zoloft birth defect cases and failure to act quickly can prevent those injured from pursuing legal discourse. If your child has suffered birth defects due to Zoloft-use during pregnancy, contact us at http://www.gregcolemanlaw.com/ssri-birth-defects.html for a free case evaluation.

Zoloft is in a class of prescription drugs known as SSRI, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. SSRIs are a form of pharmaceutical compounds that are known as anti-depressants. SSRIs are used to alleviate mood disorders and anxiety disorders, such as depression, panic disorders, paranoia, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Zoloft and other SSRIs work by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain.  Drugs that are classified as SSRIs are Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Cymbalta and Lexapro. While SSRIs have been effective for those suffering from depression disorders, there are many negative Zoloft side-effects, including birth defects.

In 2005, the FDA issued a public health advisory about antidepressants, warning that SSRIs used during the first trimester increase the risk of heart birth defects. In a follow-up study performed in Denmark, Zoloft and Celexa were discovered to increase the chance of septal heart defects in unborn children.  Septal heart defects can result in improper blood circulation or a hole between the heart’s two upper chambers.  Zoloft has now been classified as a pregnancy “Category C” drug, meaning that the risk of Zoloft birth defects is possible, but unknown.

Because Zoloft birth defects may deal with more than abnormal heart conditions, the dangerous drug attorneys at Greg Coleman Law, PC want to help with a variety of birth defect cases.  Has your child suffered club foot, skull defects, delayed development, brain defects or omphalocele and you believe it was caused by Zoloft used during pregnancy?
