Ultrabooks Become Major Addition to Laptop Lineups

Manufacturers and vendors at this year’s CES dominated the show with many new models of ultra-slim and lightweight laptops

This year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada heavily featured the new range of ultrabooks that will be released by almost every major vendor this year. While tablets have been gaining a lot of popularity over the last couple years, they still took a backseat to these major developments in the laptop category.

Mobile computing has seen some major changes, and many of these developments are directly related to the tablet market. The convenience and simplicity of these devices have made them extremely popular. However, there are still some things that require the power and accessibility of a full laptop computer, and these new models are designed to fill the gap between the portability of a tablet and the functionality of a laptop.

Ultrabooks are a new category of extremely thin, light, and powerful laptops. They will feature some of the latest developments in processors by Intel, as well as solid state hard drives that are much faster and quieter than the traditional drives. Manufacturers are putting a lot of effort into designing the slim form factor that will differentiate them from the competition and attract consumers that require an extremely portable and powerful option.

Many of the products shown at CES are often only available in the domestic market, but a large portion of the laptops on display will likely reach the international audience very soon. The new laptop that was on display in Las Vegas this month will soon be showing up across the globe. These developments will likely be seen in places like Germany or France (where a Dell laptop would be called: ordinateur portable) almost as soon as they are available elsewhere.

The popularity of tablets will continue to grow as more consumers take advantage of the simple interface and portability. They have been established as effective tools for multimedia entertainment, Web browsing, and communication. However, when users require more powerful processors, larger storage space, and access to more involved applications, programs, and even games, then a laptop is usually the preferred choice.

With the growing interest in tablets, there were many rumors that this year’s CES would feature a range of new advancements in this area. While there were many new devices on display at the show, it was still the ultrabooks that featured most prominently. Over the next year there will be a heavy marketing push to establish this new category of laptops as a good option for portable computing.
