Canadian contractor exploited recovering addicts for illegal asbestos abatement

A Canadian man is facing a jail term for exploiting recovering addicts in an illegal asbestos abatement project.

Arthur Moore of AM Environmental could spend up to six months in jail for failing to provide employees with protective gear when working on asbestos and drywall removal projects. Moore employed men as young as 14 from a local drug rehabilitation facility, knowing they had to work or be kicked out of the program.

The men were not provided gear that would protect them from asbestos exposure. Moore did not even inform the men that they were working with asbestos and exploited their need for a job.

Court documents showed that Moore forged paperwork concealing the presence of asbestos and other hazardous materials.

In the U.S. and Canada, removing asbestos form a building requires that the company follows strict guidelines to protect workers and other people from the harmful effects of asbestos

Exposure to asbestos causes a range of pulmonary diseases including mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer. People who have contracted mesothelioma because of a negligent employer have a legal course of action. When they hire a mesothelioma attorney they can seek compensation.

Mesothelioma patients suffer greatly and will incur expensive medical bills. A mesothelioma lawyer will fight to obtain compensation for their clients to pay their medical bills and make their lives comfortable. The experience of a mesothelioma attorney makes them more than qualified to litigate an asbestos case.
