A box truck carrying apples collided with a train on Route 191 Tuesday morning causing injury to the driver and spilling 300 gallons of diesel fuel.
The collision happened when the driver of a refrigerated box truck headed west on Brodhead Road drove onto the railroad tracks while a train was approaching from the south.
The train struck the box truck right behind the cab severing it from the trailer. The driver, 55 year-old Robert Altamose, was banged up and taken to the hospital for his injuries.
The collision also separated the fuel tank from the truck spilling about 200 gallons of diesel fuel. Hazardous materials teams were called to the area to clean up the spill.
Police are unsure why the truck driver crossed the tracks with a train approaching and will likely be cited for the accident.
No one on the train was injured.
