Drug Treatment Vital for Cocaine Addiction

The only solution to drug and alcohol addiction.

Ryan Adams was someone that got hooked on cocaine at an early age and unfortunately used coke for most of his adolescent life. "I was completely consumed by it." he said in a recent interview. "I went to several rehabs before I finally turned my life around."

Right now, cocaine is the third most abused drug in the country next to alcohol and prescription drugs. Currently, the United States alone is consuming 300 metric tons of cocaine per year, and is the largest consumer of cocaine in the world.

And, although cocaine abuse is mostly concentrated in the Midwest region of our country, the drug is slowly creeping into all areas of the United States leaving behind devastation for anyone unfortunate enough to fall victim to it.

Known to many on the streets as, coke, blow, crack, c-dust, and freebase cocaine is obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. The drug is classified as a stimulant of the central nervous system, and was used legally at one time before being outlawed because of its destruction to individuals and addictive properties. Right now, Columbia is the world's leading producer of cocaine and reports indicate that three quarters of the world's annual yield of cocaine has been produced in the country.

Cocaine has been used by more than 15 million people in the Unites States, many of whom ended up hooked on the drug, such us Ryan and ended up in drug treatment.

Thankfully for Mr. Adams, he was able to successfully recover from his cocaine addiction. In 2007, he enrolled in Narconon Louisiana, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. "I never thought that I would get to the point where drugs were controlling my life,” he says. “I realized that not only were they controlling it, they were destroying it."

Lewis believes that he was one of the lucky ones to escape the grips of cocaine "It gets you. I didn't care about my friends, my family, my future, or myself. I only cared about when are where I was going to get my next fix."

Narconon Louisiana is a long-term inpatient facility located just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Unlike traditional rehabs, Narconon Louisiana does not subscribe to the idea that addiction is a disease. Instead, the program focuses on the underlying reasons why a person uses drugs in the first place. Once those issues are isolated and handled, the individual no longer feels the need to use drugs.

In addition to handling the underlying issues centered on drug abuse, Narconon Louisiana has a unique detoxification program that rids the body of harmful residue left behind by drugs. As a result, there is a dramatic decrease in physical drug cravings that so often lead to relapse and are the downfall of sobriety.
