The greatest Super Bowl game ever played took place back in 2008. The New York Giants ruined the New England Patriots’ perfect streak and took away their one opportunity to accomplish the impossible 19-0 season. Everyone counted out the Giants, and proclaimed that NY could not stand a chance against the superstar New England team.
On the other hand, the Giants were able to prevail against Patriots in the last two minutes of the game to take a 17-14 victory.
Now fast forward to 2012. We wait in anticipation for a great rematch between the two East coast teams. Tom Brady and his Patriots seek revenge on the Giants for that depressing loss in 2008. Could we ask for a greater Super Bowl then this?!? No, we really cannot; no one can simply resist watching one of the greatest rematches in Superbowl history.
The Patriots were fortunate enough to make it to the Super Bowl due to a missed field goal attempt by the Baltimore Ravens’ Billy Cundiff. In the NFC division, the Giants pulled through in overtime against the 49ers and defeated the league’s top defensive team. The Giants have managed to repeat their similar 2007 road to victory and remain one game away from another Superbowl title.
For this Superbowl, the two teams appear evenly matched; we expect to see huge games from Tom Brady and Eli Manning. Boston and New York rivalry just got much more intense. Get ready for a very ruthless event and possibly an even better Super bowl game than the ’07 season.
Analysis
After reviewing extreme game-play simulations and discussing outcomes with our sports cast, we conclude that the Giants will come out on top again. Last week, we had performed the same procedure of analyzing matchups and playbooks, and we were correct in predicting that the Giants would defeat the 49ers by a small margin. We hope to even see a repeat of the ’08 game, particularly when the Giants edged out the Patriots in the last two minutes of the game.
We decided to give the victory to the Giants, because the Patriots have the worst pass defense ranking in the league. Patriots’ cornerback, Arrington, will never be able to keep up with the likes of Nicks, Manningham or Cruz. The Giants possess three of the best receivers in the league, and each receiver will definitely give the Patriots pass defense some hell. The Patriots will sadly fall short in keeping up with the Giants’ passing ability.
As long as Manning remains protected from sacks, he should be able to have a field day on this pass defense. Of course, the running game needs to be on point, but they have proven themselves to be extremely effective against the best defensive team in the league. Thus, they should not have too much to worry about the Patriots running defense.
The Giants defense will be all over Tom Brady, not leaving him much opportunity to find his receivers. We know that their defense was really strong last week, and we expect them to keep up that same pace in their final game of the season. Look for Umenyiora, Tuck and JPP to give Tom Brady the worst nightmare of his life; we predict New York will accumulate roughly 5 sacks on Brady.
The Patriots do have one advantage in the form of Rob Gronkowski. For the entire season, the 6’7″ tight end has provided numerous nightmares for opponents. In this case, the Giants are going to need to put Kimnauka or Blackburn on Gronkowski in order to even have a chance at impeding his performance. Also, look for the Patriots utilizing a lot of safety help on Gronkowski.
Of course, we must not rule out Tom Brady as a prominent factor in the game. He is a champion quarterback, and will be able to get hot right away. Therefore, the Giants will need to place a good deal of focus on keeping him contained. The Giants have already beaten the Patriots earlier this season and a repeat is possible if they can stop Brady from getting hot.
The Giants are definitely going to need Eli to really step up and have a huge game. In every simulation we orchestrated, we still predict Eli performing at a descent level, and he should ultimately lead his team to victory. Important factors include Bradshaw having a strong start to set the tone, shutting down Gronkowski, and allowing the G-men’s three receivers to have a field day. Unfortunately, we also predict the Patriots only standing a chance if Brady has the best game of his entire career and if their defense can shut down the three best receivers in the game.
Prediction
Get ready for the greatest rematch and rivalry to unfold soon. This game will have tremendous amounts of big hits and fights for each play. Look for Tom Brady and Eli Manning to get extremely hot and have a thrilling head-to-head battle. Finally, we predict the Giants winning their second Super Bowl in six years on a touchdown within the last two minutes of the game, ending the Super Bowl with a 24-21 victory.
