A North Carolina mother of a 4 year old hired a baby sitter for new years eve and like most of us she totally trusted this 17 year old by the name of Olivia. At 12:30 the mother got a text message from Olivia stating, “Something was wrong” with the child. The Horry county Police report said that the mother then called the babysitter to find out what is wrong with the child. At that point she was told that the child had fallen numerous times, had hit her head and was dizzy. The mother went home and found her child nearly unconscious and took her to Seacoast medical Center with the babysitter going along.
The doctors examined the child and then they took blood for test on the child and they discovered Xanax in the child’s system. At that point the mother stated as she knew that the child was not on Xanax; she then asked the baby sitter and also searched Olivia’s purse. She found five Xanax bars, which holds four sections of the drug each. Olivia told her that they were prescribed to one of her family members. Olivia confessed to stealing the medication and said she intended to use it to “calm the child down so she would take a nap”. Olivia also told the mother that she removed just one of the four sections of the drug and put it in the child’s spaghetti during lunch and the child took just one taste. She had the reaction to the medication soon after.
Needless to say after Horry County Police did more investigating they arrested Olivia and charged her with unlawful neglect of a child. They also made sure the family member the drugs were stolen from was contacted and asked to file a police report regarding the theft.
