Motorist dies after offering aid to an injured pedestrian

One woman is dead and another man is in serious condition after a pair of traffic accidents on North Ave. West, according to NJ.com.

Police were called about two pedestrian accidents around 6:45 pm. According to Westfield Police Captain David Wyman, a man was crossing North Ave. West in a crosswalk when a car struck him.

The driver of the car that struck him got out of her vehicle to help the injured man. She was then hit by another car. Wyman said a third car was involved in the accident but fled the scene.

The unidentified woman died on the scene. The pedestrian was air-lifted to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. He died later Wednesday evening.

Police are attempting to recreate the accident to determine the sequence of events. They believe they have the identity of the driver who fled the scene. Police are treating the area where the accident occurred like a crime scene.

Pedestrians sometimes incur serious injuries after being struck by a car. They may want to retain an accident attorney if they feel they are entitled to compensation. An accomplished accident attorney will work diligently to prove a driver’s negligence.

As everyone knows medical care can be extremely costly and accident victims will often accumulate piles of medical bills. An accident lawyer will use their skills to make certain their clients get a just settlement.
