Poll shows majority of Americans want the government to help with the foreclosure crisis

The foreclosure crisis shows no sign of slowing with millions of foreclosures waiting in the pipelines. Though foreclosure rates dropped dramatically in 2011, the problem is far from over. And a new Gallup poll shows that the majority of Americans want the government to help solve the housing crisis.

According the poll, 58 percent of the people surveyed want the government to take direct action in response to rising foreclosure rates, while 34 percent don’t want the government to intervene at all, as reported by the Huffington Post.

Some people argue that foreclosure should just bottom out and let the housing market reset itself. But some have suggested this is will further depress house prices and cause more people to go underwater on their loans. As homeowners and foreclosure lawyers know the process can take months to years. Without any intervention it could take decades for the housing sector to recover.

While some people took out loans they couldn’t afford many others were subjected fraudulent bank practices. The homeowners who wrongfully received default notices have been able to avoid eviction by employing a foreclosure attorney.

The federal government has been attempting to negotiate a settlement with the country’s largest banks to help homeowners but it may have hit a brick wall, because they are seeking protection from future liabilities.

At the time being a foreclosure attorney is a homeowners best bet to avoid foreclosure or seek a mortgage modification.
