A Rising Tide Surf Causes Event Returns for Third Year
On February 7, 2012, A Rising Tide Surf Causes event returns to Brooklyn for a night of fundraising and inspiration. Eight surf-related nonprofits will receive proceeds from this annual event that promotes collaboration between surf nonprofits, industry, media and philanthropists.
The nonprofits presenting at the event include The Best Day Foundation, Beyond the Surface International, Surf Resource Network, Surfrider Foundation NYC Chapter, Warm Current, WAVES for Development, Waves for Water, and Waves of Health and are proudly hosted by WAVES for Development and NYC Urchin. These innovative nonprofits, many formed within the last five years, set sail with surfing’s new aloha and a growing trend in giving back.
“Surfing has inspired many individuals to take action in the areas of film, conservation, sustainability, education, health, and humanitarian aid,” said Annie McBride, co-founder of NYC Urchin.“This event brings together representatives from each in a spirit of collaboration”.
“This is a great opportunity to share ideas and success stories with other not-for-profit organizations,” said WAVES for Development International Executive Director Dave Aabo. “It creates a platform for collaboration, celebration and support for the diverse surf nonprofits, media and industry.”
The evening will feature a DJ, film projections, art and designs by Albert Shelton, Matt Schwartz, Ryan Struck, Tcolla, local brews, raffles and a silent auction. Event sponsors include: Bodhi handmade soap, Ditch Plains restaurants, Ella café, Food Freaks, KIND Snacks, Mikoh Swimwear, NYC Urchin, Panda sunglasses, Patagonia UWS, Sex Wax, SMASH productions, and Sir Richards.
