Yet another celebrity has been arrested for driving under the influence. Avery Brooks, who starred in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” was arrested in Connecticut over the weekend for DUI. Unless Brooks hires an accomplished
DUI attorney, he may be boldly going where many have been before, jail.
The Hartford Courant reported the Brooks, 63, who played Captain Benjamin Sisko, was driving in the wealthy Wilton, Connecticut suburb when police pulled him over Sunday night.
Brooks is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey.
Authorities said that a person called the police to report an erratic driver. Police arrested Brooks after conducting field sobriety tests which he failed.
TMZ reported that Brooks has no prior arrests for DUI. Brooks’ reps have not made a statement.
For many people a DUI is a one-time error in judgment. A person may not feel like they are too drunk to drive and decide to get behind the wheel. Studies have shown that even a small amount of alcohol can affect a person’s ability. This indiscretion can lead to an accident and injury to a person or property.
Police and courts are tough on intoxicated drivers and their only hope for leniency is to hire an experienced
DUI lawyer.
Even a first time DUI charge can land a person in jail and become very costly because of the associated fines.
DUI attorney can appeal to the courts and possible have charges and sentencing reduced.
