William Hazelgrove, who writes in Ernest Hemingways attic in Oak Park Illinois and writes a literary cultural blog, has lived the nightmare. "I bought the big house like everyone else in the boom and looked around and saw what the American Dream had become. It was impossible to sustain." Hazelgrove sat down and wrote about what he saw as the American Nightmare, people being used as pawns with their houses worthless, 401ks gutted, leaving people looking for meaning in a society based on materialism.
