Smoking cigarettes is dangerous enough without having to worry about the psychiatric adverse side effects of some anti-smoking drugs. Health Canada has been in talks with a major pharmaceutical company, Pfizer Inc. about having stronger safety warnings on the boxes of some anti-smoking drugs. Some of these anti-smoking drugs can cause severe psychiatric side effects, including suicidal thoughts. With so many people in the world today looking for quick fixes and medication being the strongest marketed fix. It is scary to know that even a drug that is designed to help people stop a deadly drug, nicotine, can cause severe side effects.
Health officials in the USA have already ordered two different pharmaceutical companies to add black box warnings to different anti-smoking drugs that have adverse side effects causing serious mental health problems. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have received over 5000 different reports about two anti-smoking drugs, Glaxo and Zyban causing side effects such as, depression, hostility, thoughts of self-harm, and other behavioural changes. Since different anti-smoking drugs have been approved in Canada from 2007 on, Health Canada has had close to 700 hundred reports of psychiatric adverse side effects including agitation, depressed mood, hostility, and impulsive and disturbing thoughts.
Stopping smoking is a very difficult thing to do, but is extremely important because of all of the serious health risks smoking will cause. Smokers already have enough to worry about when stopping, and now there are even more risks if smokers involve the use of anti-smoking drugs. Many people whom have stopped smoking have taken natural and holistic approaches and have seen much success. This type of approach will significantly lower the risks, where as if a person was to take anti-smoking drugs. The Narconon drug rehab program utilizes a 100% natural biophysical detoxification program that many ex-smokers have went through. This type of treatment is one of the most extremely effective ways for handling the physical effects of drug and alcohol addiction, and restoring a person heath and well being.
