Fiery crash in Missouri kills truck driver

Cameron, MO – A collision between two tractor-trailers resulted in a fiery blaze that killed one driver and split hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel.

Missouri Highway Patrol said that shortly after midnight on Friday two tractor trailers were traveling on Interstate 35 just 5 miles north of Cameron. A semi-truck was traveling northbound when it crossed over the center line and hit a southbound double bottom tractor-trailer head-on, according to News Press.com

Sgt. Sheldon Lyon of the Highway Patrol said the driver of the northbound truck died of his injuries. There was a passenger in the cab of the truck who was pulled from the cab by a passerby. The injured individual was flown to University of Kansas hospital.

The driver of the southbound truck was also injured. The condition of the survivors is not known.

About 600 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into a ditch along the highway. Both trucks burned down to the frame.

Regional Hazardous Materials crews and investigators are investigating the accident.
