Nation's Top HS Players Complete LeBron James Skills Academy on Wednesday

The LeBron James Skills Academy ends Wednesday as 80 of the top high school basketball prospects compete in the skills camp in Akron, OH.

The skills academy took place at the University of Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena, beginning on July 5.

The Nike-sponsored two-day camp is one of the summer’s biggest events in high school basketball as it serves as a premier place for college basketball coaches to continue their recruiting.

The majority of the players in attendance play for high schools and/or AAU teams that are sponsored by Nike. The top 20 players from each of the previous Skills Academies (Paul Pierce, Amare Stoudemire, Deron Williams and Vince Carter) were invited to the LeBron James Academy.

This year, the field is headlined by Harrison Barnes, Kyrie Irving, DeShaun Thomas, Josh Selby, Will Barton, Jelan Kendrick, Kendall Marshall, Jereme Richmond, Andre Dawkins, Adreian Payne, Doron Lamb, Dion Waiters, Roscoe Smith, Reggie Bullock and Daniel Bejarano.

Mike Gilchrist leads the list of underclassmen, along with Austin Rivers, Marquis Teague, Wayne Blackshear, Mike Shaw, Myck Kabongo, Rakeem Christmas, Adonis Thomas, Trevor Lacey, Johnny O’Bryant, and Michael Gbinije. Perry Ellis, DaJuan Coleman and Justin Anderson are the only sophomores that will be in attendance.

The LeBron James Skills Academy is the premier Nike-sponsored event for high school basketball since Nike did away with the Nike All-American Camp a few years ago.

The top 30 players from the LeBron Academy will then be invited to the Nike Global Challenge in Beaverton, OR to play against some of the elite international talent from around the world.
