Mary Cashman, wife of Yankees General Manager, filed for divorce Friday after police arrested a woman who stalked and attempted to extort money from Brian Cashman after they allegedly had an affair.
Police arrested Louise Neathway after she attempted to extort $15,000 from Cashman. Neathway alleges that she and Cashman had a ten month long affair during which she became pregnant and had an abortion. She threatened to expose the affair if Cashman didn’t pay her the money through a series of threatening emails. Cashman had already given her $6,000, according to the New York Daily News.
If a divorce attorney can prove that Cashman had the affair his wife Mary will be eligible to a sizable divorce settlement.
Neathway has been accused of stalking before and is currently on Riker’s in police custody. Numerous men have accused her of stalking and extortion.
Cashman denies that he had an affair with Neathway and helped police arrest her Thursday.
Mary Cashman stood by her husband when he was accused of having an affair three years ago. She filed for divorce Friday stating their marriage “has broken down irretrievably.”
Mary Cashman is seeking permanent alimony, half of their estate, and joint custody of their two children.
Infidelity is one of the leading reasons couples seek out divorce lawyers to dissolve a marriage. When these allegations are true it makes it possible for a divorce attorney to get the most favorable outcome from their divorce proceedings.
