NBC Apologizes For “Inappropriate Gesture” By MIA During Halftime Show

MIA is no stranger to controversy, so it should come as no surprise that the singer landed NBC in hot water because she flashed an “inappropriate gesture” during the Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL placed all the blame for the singer’s middle finger slip up on NBC and the network’s delay system.

MIA’s unexpected gesture came while she was singing “Give Me All Your Luvin’” with Madonna. Censors were unable to blur the gesture or completely bleep-out the expletive in the line “I don’t give a s**t.”

"There was a failure in NBC's delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans,” the NFL said in a statement.

NBC also apologized. "We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late,” the network said.

This is not the first time an artist has caused a stir during Super Bowl halftime. In 2004, Justin Timberlake accidentally exposed Janet Jackson’s nipple during their halftime performance.
