Two Princess Cruises Return To Florida With 499 People Sickened With Norovirus

Two Princess Cruises returned to Florida over the weekend with nearly 500 passengers and crew sickened with Norovirus. A spokesperson for the cruise line said the cause of the Norovirus outbreak is under investigation by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC investigators have been on board both vessels.

The Crown Princess returned to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday with 364 passengers and 30 crew members sick out of 3,100 people on board while the Ruby Princess returned Sunday with 92 passengers and 13 crew members sick out of 3,000 people on board. Both ships were sanitized before passengers on the next set of trips were allowed to embark.

Norovirus is a highly contagious gastrointestinal virus that causes vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. The virus is spread through person-to-person contact, contaminated food or water, or contact with a contaminated surface.
