Security officials have confirmed a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan’s tribal region Wednesday morning left at least 10 suspected Haqqani militants dead. The officials, speaking anonymously, said the strike targeted a compound in Tappi, North Waziristan. Two missiles hit the building.
Wednesday’s drone strike was the fourth in Pakistan this year. All three of the previous strikes also occurred in North Waziristan, a tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Last year, Pakistani authorities condemned U.S. drone strikes, calling them “counterproductive” to the fight against terrorists.
"Drone attacks have become a core irritant in the counter-terror campaign. We have repeatedly said that such attacks are counterproductive and only contribute to strengthen the hands of the terrorists,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
