Kanye West is preparing to make his sartorial return to Paris Fashion Week showing his second womenswear collection.
WWD reports that West will show his ready-to-wear lookson March 6th at 9:30pm at an an undisclosed location. Despite heavyweight support from the likes of designer Alexander Wang, Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kanye’s eponymous line largely drew harsh reaction from fashionistas when it debuted last October in Paris.
Critics panned his collection as lacking cohesion and improperly fitting. The NY Times mused, “What Mr. West eventually showed was confusing as well. Though designers in Paris are presenting collections for next spring and summer this week, Mr. West’s collection was heavy on leather, fur and coats, some pieces dripping with so much fox you couldn’t tell if they were stoles or backpacks.”
Fashion faux paus! Adding insult to injury, the same onlooker writes, “A sparkly cropped jacket had so many bits of flare in it that you could imagine Mr. West sampling fashion like he samples different styles of music. There was one good-looking pair of color-blocked pants in blue and coral, but it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit.”
Kanye has been vocal about his fashion aspirations and ranted about the arduous journey to become a designer on his much-discussed tweeting spree last month. He tweeted, “Early 2011 … I moved to Paris and opened a small design studio… the language barrier was quite difficult… I still don’t have a Paris VAT number to this day…”
