Massive Truck Bomb Kills 25 in Afghanistan's Logar Province

A bomb explosion in central Afghanistan killed at least 25 people in a village south of Kabul, according to reports Thursday morning.

The bomb was hidden in a truck, but exploded shortly after it crashed into a stream in between two schools in the Logar Province. The explosion killed at least 12 schoolchildren.

The Logar Province has become a center for increased activity from Taliban insurgents. Several U.S. military bases have been built in the province, causing a lot of tension with Afghans.

The explosion, which took place just less than 30 miles from Kabul, occurred during a week of intense conflict in Afghanistan. At least 17 American and British troops have been killed in various combat incidents since Friday.
