Ladi Balogun Led FCMB Gets Commendation from Edo State Governor Over School Renovation
Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has commended First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc under the leadership of Ladi Balogun, for its positive contribution towards the development of education in the State.
The Governor made this commendation while speaking at the official commissioning of the renovated two blocks of 18 classrooms at Agbado Primary School, Benin City, which was undertaken by FCMB as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in Edo State. The governor went on to highlight the many years of neglect of the public schools in the country saying “The public schools have collapsed and many of us prefer to send our children to private schools, thereby building a society where there are separate schools for the children of the rich and poor”.
Acknowledging that a significant investment had been made by FCMB towards supporting the education system in the State and the country at large, the governor also said “the aluminium doors and windows and tiles FCMB used for the building of this school are what you find in the homes of the rich.”
He therefore, called on the nation’s political elite and other corporate entities to emulate FCMB and invest massively in the future of Nigerian youths by creating an enabling atmosphere for learning, noting that the genuine development of the country would be threatened if this was not done.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director of FCMB, Mr. Ladi Balogun, who was represented by the Executive Director, Transaction Services, Mr. Peter Obaseki, stated that the commitment of the bank to the project was driven by its Corporate Social Responsibility philosophy centred around empowering people especially, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged in the acquisition of skills with the view of eventually becoming self reliant and economically independent.”
According to Ladi Balogun’s representative, “The benefit of today’s commissioning exercise transcends the mere need for education and draws attention to the need for qualitative education in a conducive and enabling environment so that our youngsters can escape the prevalent poverty cycle in which about 70 percent of Nigerians are trapped, with grave implications for civil society and social order.”
He expressed optimism that the newly rehabilitated Agbado Primary School will serve as the perfect platform for the education of children and acquisition of skills.
