A Turkish passenger plane was hijacked earlier today in an effort by two men to deter a scheduled papal visit to Turkey. The flight had left Tirana, the capital city of Albania, en route to Istanbul.
Two Turkish men hijacked the plane while in Greek air space and were quickly flanked by four Greek fighter jets who escorted the plane to the Italian city of Brindisi.
There have been no reports of injury in the hijacking that was spawned from a scheduled papal visit to Turkey by Pope Benedict XVI. The two hijackers have expressed a desire to surrender.
