Routine traffic stop causes 10 vehicle pile-up on I-75 in Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH- A routine traffic stop on Wednesday night led to the injury of a police officer and caused a ten vehicle pile-up involving an oil spill. All northbound lanes of 1-75 had to be closed for several hours.

The incident occurred around 8pm when an Arlington Heights police officer pulled over a motorist for a routine traffic stop. The driver became confused and instead of pulling over to the right pulled onto the narrow left side berm.

The officer pulled alongside the vehicle in the fast lane in an attempt to direct the driver to the right side of the interstate. Another vehicle drove up in the fast lane and struck the police cruiser. The officer was traveling about 5 mph.

This set of chain reaction of collisions involving eight other vehicles. A tractor-trailer jackknifed and spilt about 200 gallons of fuel onto the roadway. It took emergency crews several hours to clear debris and the fuel spill.

The police officer was taken to Bethesda Hospital with minor injuries. Several other people suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to various hospitals.

Even minor injuries will cause the accident victims to accumulate medical expenses and an accident attorney will make certain these bills are paid by a careless motorist.

Replacing damaged property will be difficult unless an accident attorney is working to obtain compensation. Accident attorneys use their expertise to negotiate favorable settlements with insurance companies and negligent drivers.
