Second US Drone Strike In Two Days Leaves 4 Dead In Pakistan

For the second time in two days, a suspected U.S. drone strike killed militants in Pakistan’s tribal region. Pakistani security officials speaking anonymously say four suspected Haqqani militants died Thursday in the North Waziristan town of Miranshah when two missiles hit their hideout.

Thursday’s strike came one day after 10 suspected Haqqani militants were killed in a suspected drone attack in Tappi, a town about 6.2 miles from Miranshah. Security officials said the drone fired two missiles at a compound.

This week’s drone strikes were the fourth and fifth in Pakistan this year. All of the previous strikes also occurred in North Waziristan, a tribal region bordering Afghanistan. Last year, Pakistani authorities condemned U.S. drone strikes, calling them “counterproductive” to the fight against terrorists.

"Drone attacks have become a core irritant in the counter-terror campaign. We have repeatedly said that such attacks are counterproductive and only contribute to strengthen the hands of the terrorists,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
