Insiders: Whitney Houston Died From Mixing Alcohol, Prescription Drugs

Although Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, authorities reportedly do not believe her cause of death was drowning. Sources close to the singer’s family tell TMZ the L.A. County Coroner believes she died from mixing prescription drugs and alcohol. Coroner’s officials reportedly told the family Houston, who has a history of drug and alcohol addiction, was probably dead before her head became submerged under water.

Houston’s death remains under investigation. An official cause of death will be determined after the coroner receives autopsy and toxicology results. "We need additional testing," said Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter. "We won't make that final determination until all the tests are in."

Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen told People magazine Houston, 48, was pronounced dead in her hotel room at 3:55 p.m., 12 minutes after hotel security placed the 911 call. "Someone in her entourage found her unresponsive in her room ... It's unclear who notified hotel staff because she has quite an entourage here at the hotel. We attempted to resuscitate her, to no avail,” Rosen said.

Houston family sources say it was Houston’s aunt, Mary Jones, who discovered her body and performed CPR.

The six-time Grammy winner leaves behind her 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina. Over her 35 year career, Houston sold more than 170 million albums and singles worldwide. She won 415 awards, making her the most awarded female artist ever, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
