Intelligent InSites Leverages Trimble’s ThingMagic RFID Technology

Intelligent InSites, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise real-time location systems (RTLS) software helping hospitals improve patient satisfaction and operational performance while supporting multiple radio frequency identification (RFID) and RTLS technologies, has announced that its InSites RTLS solution supports ThingMagic Astra® readers for passive RFID data integration.

“The ability of the InSites solution to automatically collect and intelligently process real-time location data from a variety of locating technologies is unique in the RTLS space,” said Ralf Mehnert-Meland, Director of Developer/OEM Relationships at Intelligent InSites. “We continue to expand our enterprise software by adding support for a multitude of data sources, such as passive RFID from ThingMagic readers, to support our healthcare clients in choosing the best RTLS technologies for their particular requirements.”

“Passive RFID readers combined with Intelligent InSites’ superior RTLS software platform enables an expansion of locating solutions in healthcare, allowing hospitals to focus less on the underlying technology and more on improving processes and reducing cost,” said Ken Lynch, Director of Marketing at Trimble’s ThingMagic Division.

Astra is an easy to install, unobtrusive, UHF RFID reader with a fully integrated antenna designed for commercial environments, such as hospitals and clinics. Driven by ThingMagic's leading modular radios Astra readers offer Power over Ethernet (PoE) and WiFi options allowing for flexible, low cost, installations. Finished and embedded RFID readers from ThingMagic RFID readers have been selected by many hospitals and healthcare solution providers for a wide range of applications including loss prevention, asset management, patient and staff workflow optimization, and pharmaceutical management.

The InSites RTLS software solution is built to collect real-time location and condition sensing data from any type of RTLS technology, including active RFID, infrared/RF, passive RFID, ultrasound, Wi-Fi, and ZigBee, then manage that real-time enterprise data, seamlessly and intuitively, through the InSites interface. By leveraging this real-time data and InSites’ applications, such as asset management, patient flow, and temperature monitoring applications, hospitals are able to achieve meaningful and measurable hard-dollar cost savings while improving patient satisfaction and patient care.
