Mike Comrie Ending NHL Career

After 10 years with the National Hockey League, Mike Comrie has announced his retirement. The Edmonton Oilers star released a statement Tuesday saying he is unable to “manage the rigors of NHL play” after undergoing three surgeries on his right hip over the last five years.

"My career has afforded me a series of phenomenal opportunities to play and become friends with some of the greatest people I have ever known and some of the greatest players who have ever played this game. To have made the lasting friendships I enjoy today with so many of my former teammates is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life,” he said.

In addition to the Oilers, Comrie played for the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 31-year-old will welcome his first child with wife Hilary Duff next month. "Today we are enjoying all the great memories Mike had while playing in the NHL! Now we have a big addition coming to our family!" Duff Tweeted Tuesday.
