David Kelly, an Irish actor perhaps best known for his roles in Waking Ned and the 2005 remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has died following a short, undisclosed illness. He was 82. No other details have been released.
Kelly’s career spanned over 50 years and included stage, TV, film and radio roles. His most notable TV credits include Strumpet City, Robin’s Nest, Fawlty Towers and Emmerdale Farm. Kelly played the Vicar in the original Italian Job and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in the hit film Waking Ned. His most recent films include Laws of Attraction, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Stardust.
Kelly is survived by his wife of 51 years, Laurie Morton, and their two children.
