California Councilman forced to resign after DUI arrest

Carpinteria, CA- Councilman Joe Armendariz was forced to resign by the City council for charges related to a DUI arrest in December. Armendariz did not show up for the meeting.

Armendariz was arrested on December 2nd after he rolled his Volvo on Highway 101. He was driving when he failed to make a turn and veered to the left. He ran into a center divider then crossed two lanes of the roadway crashed through a barbed wire fence then ran into a tree. At the time of his arrest police said his blood alcohol content was .18 which is twice the legal limit.

The City Council met on Monday and voted 3 to 1 to have Armendariz censured. “A council member represents the city and is a community leader,” said town Mayor Al Clark, “This conduct is a poor reflection on the city, city council and citizens of Carpinteria.”

This was Armendariz’s second arrest for DUI in five years. His previous arrest occurred in 2006. Second DUI offenses require the representation of an experienced DUI lawyer.

A DUI arrest can severely impact a person’s career and freedoms, a DUI lawyer can provide an effective defense in order to reduce the negative ramifications of an arrest. Anyone facing these charges may be able to avoid jail time and keep driving privileges along as they decide to hire an accomplished DUI lawyer to work on their case.
