An invitation-only funeral service and burial for legendary singer Whitney Houston is scheduled for Saturday in Newark, New Jersey, a spokesperson for the Whigham Funeral Home has confirmed. The private ceremony will begin at noon at New Hope Baptist Church, Houston’s childhood church.
The superstar’s body was transported from Los Angeles to New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport late Monday night in a private plane reportedly owned by actor and producer Tyler Perry. A gold hearse then took Houston’s body to Whigham Funeral Home in Newark. Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and ex-husband, Bobby Brown, are said to have also arrived in Newark Monday night.
Houston was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has not determined the official cause of death, but it is widely believed Houston died from a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol. She was 48.
