Toni Bissell’s compelling story about how she came to start her company called N-Style ID started while she was working as a personal trainer at a Lake Tahoe gym. Her then 10- year old daughter, Camille, came down with a sudden illness. After a week in the hospital, the doctors determined that Camille had Type I Diabetes.
The family worked hard to change eating patterns, administering insulin injections and checking blood sugar levels. The one thing they couldn’t do was find a
medical ID bracelet that looked nice and served its purposed; N-Style ID was born.
Now, Camille can wear a
medical alert necklace, or bracelet that is fun and fashionable. She no longer has to stress when she’s not close to anyone who knows about her medical condition.
“Getting people to wear medical alert jewelry has always been a challenge,” Bissell said. “Some think it’s ugly and chunky or that it doesn’t go with their clothes. Their medical ID sticks out like a sore thumb. So they “forget” to wear it and put themselves at risk. This is why I started N-Style ID.”
N-Style ID now features medical ID bracelets for women, children and men. The popular style- ID for children, are interchangeable so kids can change their bracelet from flames, to peace signs, to tiger stripes and rainbows. For men, a stainless steel or gold- plated link bracelet is popular. N- Style ID has a variety of women’s designs that include beaded bracelets, charm bracelets, lockets, leather bracelets and sports bands.
“As a mother of two, I know what girls look for in beautiful, functional medical alert jewelry,” Bissell said. “We have done a lot of research about the importance of medical ID bracelets and want to keep creating designs so that people will wear the jewelry that can essentially save their life.”
N-Style ID has gone beyond just providing beautiful jewelry; they also are an informational hub for those who have severe allergies, diabetes, epilepsy or lymphedema. The website provides information about the importance of wearing a medical ID bracelet. It also lists what information should be included on the bracelet so that the jewelry serves its purpose.
Bissell and her two children will continue to create a variety of medical bracelets in different designs and colors so that those with conditions, allergies and medicines can alert medical personal before starting treatment.
