Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare has issued a nationwide recall for over half a million bottles of infants’ grape flavored Tylenol due to the new SimpleMeasure bottle design that was supposed to make drawing the right dose easier for consumers. Instead of the new design making dosing easier, McNeil says they have received a “small number” of complaints about the flow restrictor falling into the bottle when the dosing syringe is inserted into the bottle’s opening.
“No adverse events associated with this action have been reported to date and the risk of a serious adverse medical event is remote. Consumers can continue to use Infants' TYLENOL® provided the flow restrictor at the top of the bottle remains in place,” McNeil said in a statement Friday.
The recall involves 574,000 1-ounce bottles of grape-flavored Infants' Tylenol Oral Suspension. McNeil is offering refunds for the defective products. The company asks consumers to visit www.tylenol.com or call 1-888-222-6036 to request refunds.
