A semi-truck burst into flames Sunday morning after crashing into a barrier on Route 79, seriously injuring driver.
Louis Cotta, 42, was traveling southbound in his semi-truck with no trailer on Route 79 just after 6am on when he ran into the right-side barrier. He then veered to the left onto the curb and traveled along the guardrail until he crashed into a wooden beam holding up the highway which was under construction. The truck burst into flames causing significant damage to the steel support beams, according to the Boston Herald.
When State trooper Allyson Powell arrived on the scene, flames engulfed the truck. The heat of the fire was so intense she had to park her patrol car several feet away. When she got out of her vehicle she found the driver slumped over a Jersey barrier.
State police said Cotta suffered from serious injuries but is in stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Police are still investigating the accident to determine the cause.
