Recent study shows that plastic surgery is safe and effective

Plastic surgery is a major investment for the people who have considered having a procedure such as liposuction or a breast augmentation. And with any investment people want to make certain the get the results they desire and the procedure is safe.

A recent study conducted by Northwestern University Feinberg School of medicine found that the most popular cosmetic surgeries are both safe and effective when performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon. The study, which appears in the January issue of Dermatological Clinics journal, analyzed 98 studies on cosmetic procedures to come up with their conclusions.

According to researchers, Botox and other chemical fillers, also known as neurotoxins, used to smooth wrinkles and plump up cheeks and lips is safe and can give a patient optimal results.

Researchers also found that procedures that have been around twenty years or more such as tumescent liposuction is not only safe but is also effective. Other liposuction techniques such as using lasers to melt the fat or extreme cold have shown to be effective but there is not much scientific evidence to support their long term effectiveness.

The researchers involved in the study emphasize the importance of discussing which liposuction procedure will be most effective for the patient with their board certified plastic surgeon. The type of body contouring procedure is dependent on the desired results of the patient and the quality of their skin.
