Thonotosassa, FL- U.S. 301 at Ohio Avenue looked like a junkyard after a collision between a semi-truck and three vehicles left debris spread across the roadway.
According to state troopers, the accident occurred at 6:35 am when the driver of a Toyota, Wendy Sue Anderson, 41, attempted to take a left turn off of Ohio Avenue into the path of a semi-truck carrying scrap metal.
The semi, driven by James Purcell, slammed into the rear of the Toyota, causing it to cross the northbound lanes and slam into a parked Pontiac and then into a mobile home.
The semi then spun around and rolled over onto its side spilling the scrap metal across the roadway. An oncoming SUV ran into the debris and sustained damage to the front end and undercarriage. A number of people sustained minor injuries and had to be taken to the hospital.
The occupants of the mobile home heard the crash and soon found that a car was in their house. The semi-truck lost all eight of its wheels. U.S 301 will be closed for hours while the cleanup takes place.
