Driver in chain reaction accident that left one man dead has been charged with DUI

Chicago, Il- A man from Blue Isle was allegedly drunk when he caused a chain reaction accident that pinned a beer delivery man between his truck and CTA bus.

The events took place around 3pm Tuesday on the South side when Walter Thompson, 30, struck a Ford Aerostar at a high rate of speed, which then hit a Pontiac. Thompson’s vehicle then got wedged between a CTA bus unloading passengers a beer truck being unloaded by a worker, identified as Charles Kimbrough.

Kimbrough was pinned between the delivery truck and the bus. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The beer truck lurched forward and hit a pedestrian who was listed in stable condition.

The bus driver, a passenger and the driver of the Aerostar were all injured and are also in stable condition.

Thompson attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended. He will be charged with DUI, damaging city property, driving a revoked license and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
