Adele was not happy her second acceptance speech at Tuesday’s nights Brit Awards was cut off, and she was not afraid to let everyone know it. She was collecting the best album award when host James Corden interrupted her speech to hurry her off stage so he could introduce the pop band Blur. Clearly annoyed, Adele flashed her middle finger to the audience.
The 23-year-old later apologized to anyone who was offended by the gesture. "I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but the suits offended me,” she told the BBC.
In a statement released Wednesday, officials with the Brit Awards apologized to Adele and noted she was only cut off because of the ceremony running behind. “We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running,” the statement said. “We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."
In addition to winning best album at the Brits, Adele picked up the award for best British female solo artist. Earlier this month she won six Grammy awards, including album of the year and record of the year.
Adele’s middle finger controversy comes two weeks after rapper M.I.A. was criticize for flashing her middle finger during the Super Bowl halftime show.
