Drugs Prevalent in Local Schools

When people send their children to school it is not with the expectation that they will encounter something that is harmful to them.

However, what many people don't realize is that while their young children are in school, studies show that all will be offered at least one drug by the time they finish high school.

Whether they take this drug or not depends a lot on their drug education, drug awareness, and what their parent's have taught them about drug use.

“The chances of your child learning about drugs and alcohol from their peers is high,” comments Mary Rieser, Director of the Atlanta Recovery Center, Narconon Drug Rehab in Georgia. “ Eleven million high school students (80 percent) and five million middle school students (44 percent) attend drug-infested schools, meaning possession, student drunk and/or student high on the grounds of their school, according to the National Survey of American Attitudes on Substance Abuse XII Teens and Parents.

The Atlanta Recovery Center warns that besides learning about reading, geometry, and history, they will more than likely learn about drugs to use. And abuse. And get addicted to.

Do you think a student using drugs is going to warn his or her peers, (your child, in other words), about the dangers of drug abuse? Probably not.

Couple this with the increase in back-to-school themed ads, marketing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drugs, and you have the potential of chemical experimentation at school, beyond the scope of the chemistry classes.

While apparently some child psychiatrists are trying to sell the idea that these pharmaceutical ads can be helpful because they bring can bring potential mental health problems to light, there appears to be a lack of strong campaigns to give our kids real drug education and keep them safe from possible drug cocktails.  

If many kids are already on mind altering drugs when they arrive to school, buying drugs in the school yard creates a danger that teachers weren’t trained to deal with in their education classes.  It is likely that most teachers are not even taught the physical signs of drug abuse and obviously we don’t have enough drug testing at school.

"The psychiatrists do not explain why earlier generations went to school without being drugged and had a higher reading capability," continues Ms. Rieser. "Things seemed to be fine in school – we didn’t have school shootings.  

"The only 'drug' in school was being 'drugged' to the principal’s office.  Enough 'dose' of that seemed to handle most situations just fine.  What happened? 

"If you listen to the ads or the psychiatrist, our kids are just in awful shape and need of all this medical attention.  If you listen to the kids, they live in a world where there are drugs at every turn, whether prescribed or not, and there is just not much of a drug free message coming from anywhere."
