TRS’s Michael Rozbruch Responds to Broad Sweeping Negative Stereotyping of Tax Debt Resolution Companies

Not all tax debt resolution companies are the same – such was the message Tax Resolution Services, Co., founder and CEO Michael Rozbruch conveyed in his letter in response to a recent article by Phil Mulkins of the Tulsa World newspaper. Mulkins’ article, posted on February 16, 2012, was a response to a reader who asked what to make of companies advertising on late-night television promising tax relief to the tune of “pennies on the dollar” in which Mulkins essentially recommended avoiding tax debt resolution companies. The reasons Mulkins gave for coming to such a conclusion actually fall into line with the reasons why Rozbruch helped to establish the Tax Problem Resolution Services Coalition (TPRSC), a nonprofit entity with a mission to protect taxpayers from unfair and deceptive advertising claims by unscrupulous delinquent tax debt representation providers.

“Unfortunately, there are quite a few companies out there in this industry that make promises they just can’t keep, and taxpayers deserve better,” claims Rozbruch. “What Mr. Mulkins and others may not realize, however, is that not all tax debt resolution companies are created equal, and the TPRSC is working hard to make people aware of the difference between legitimate and illegitimate companies.”

To that end, Rozbruch’s coalition has drafted government legislation that would make it illegal for tax debt resolution companies to make promises they can’t keep – such as guaranteeing dollar amount savings or requiring clients to pay exorbitant fees in advance of any services rendered, among other common tactics employed by some companies. Additionally, in May, Rozbruch will be attending a meeting of the National Association of Tax Debt Resolution Companies in Washington, DC, in order to align his goals, which he practices with his own company, with those of other legitimate tax debt resolution professionals in order to establish a unified voice as well as federal legislation establishing best practices and outlawing unscrupulous ones.

“Clearly, as evidenced by Mr. Mulkins’ article, it’s crucial to get a clear message out that we are not all ‘fly-by-night’ companies who are only out to scam clients out of their hard-earned money,” says Rozbruch. “Some of us really do want to use our knowledge as CPAs, tax attorneys and Enrolled Agents to help taxpayers rectify any issues they may have with the IRS.”

Rozbruch wants a “cleaner” tax resolution industry and is committed to leading by example. “There are credible firms out there” he says. He invites consumers with tax problems to contact his company via phone at 866-477-7762 or online at http://www.taxresolution.com for a free, no obligation consultation.
