Gerard Butler left the Betty Ford Clinic this morning after completing three weeks of treatment for substance abuse. His rep confirmed the rehab stint, but did not reveal what kind of addiction issues Butler suffered.
“Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health. We will not be making any further comment at this time,” Butler’s rep told People magazine.
TMZ reports Butler, who has previously admitted to struggling with an addiction to alcohol, became dependent on prescription pain medication after he was involved in a surfing accident while filming Of Men and Mavericks on December 18. At the time of the accident, Butler’s rep said the actor was briefly hospitalized at Stanford University Medical Centre as a precaution.
"He's fine. Very scary. For precaution, we all wanted him checked out after it all happened. Came out with flying colors,” the rep said.
