Terrell Owens, Tiki Barber and Philip Rivers pace their teams to wins in Week 6 of NFL season.

Terrell Owens caught three touchdown passes and the Dallas Cowboys (3-2) overcame a slow first half to knock off the visiting Houston Texans (1-4) 34-6. Owens came into the game with one touchdown on the season but quarterback Drew Bledsoe found him twice and back-up QB Tony Romo hit him once. Julius Jones added 106 yards on the ground for the Cowboys, it was Jones’ third staright 100 yard game.

 

Tiki Barber couldn’t be stopped and the New York Giants (3-2) tore apart an Atlanta Falcons (3-2) defense that had surrendered only one touchdown on the season 27-14. Barber ran for 185 yards and caught three passes for another 42 yards while Jeremy Shockey had two touchdown receptions. The Giants defense sacked Michael Vick seven times on the day. Falcons running back Warrick Dunn ran for 146 yards and one touchdown.

 

The San Diego Chargers (4-1) blew out the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) 48-19. Philip Rivers set a career mark with 334 yards passing and two touchdowns while running back LaDainian Tomlinson found the end zone four times for the Chargers. By halftime the Chargers had already built a 35-19 lead, the second most points ever allowed by a 49ers defense in the first half.

Vince Young earned his first victory in the NFL and Travis Henry rushed for 178 yards as the Tennessee Titans (1-5) beat the Washington Redskins (2-4) 25-22.

 

The Carolina Panthers (4-2) won their fourth straight game and Jake Delhomme threw for a career high 365 yards and two touchdowns to beat the Baltimore Ravens (4-2) 23-21. Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith had eight receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown.

 

The Detroit Lions (1-5) got their first win, beating the visiting Buffalo Bills (2-4) 20-17. Roy Williams had a career high 10 receptions along with a career high 161 yards receiving for the Lions and running back Kevin Jones ran for 127 yards.

 

The New York Jets (3-3) were able to hold off a late rally from the Miami Dolphins (1-5) and secure a 20-17 win over their divisional rival. Dolphins kicker Olindo Mare missed a 51-yard fieldgoal that would have sent the game into overtime.

 

Josh Brown kicked a 54-yard field goal with time expiring to lift the Seattle Seahawks (4-1) to a 30-28 victory over the St. Louis Rams (4-2). Matt Hasselbeck threw for three touchdowns in the win, while Rams QB Marc Bulger threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

 

The Pittsburgh Steelers (2-3) returned to Super Bowl form while battering the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) 45-7. Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes and Willie Parker ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

 

John Carney kicked the game-winning field goal with no time left to give the New Orleans Saints (5-1) a 27-24 win over the visiting Philadelphia Eagles (4-2). Saints quarterback Drew Breese threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns while wide receiver Joe Horn caught two of those touchdown passes.

 

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-4) got a late touchdown from Michael Clayton and the Bucs upset the Cincinnati Bengals (3-2) 14-13.

 

The Denver Broncos (4-1) kept the Oakland Raiders (0-5) winless with an ugly 13-3 victory. Oakland is off to their worst start since 1962.
