Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will miss Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game due to an infected finger. Longoria, voted a starter by the fans, will be replaced by Texas Rangers third baseman Michael Young.
For Young the start will be his first in six All-Star appearances. He was hitting .308 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs at the break.
Anaheim Angels third baseman Chone Figgins found his way onto the AL roster as a result of the Longoria injury. Figgins has had an outstanding first half, hitting .310 and leading the AL with 68 runs, and will be rewarded with his first All-Star appearance.
The All-Star Game is set to get under way at 7:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
