Pedro Martinez Expected to Sign with Philadelphia Phillies

Pedro Martinez appears to be set to join the Philadelphia Phillies, ending a long layoff for the three-time Cy Young Award winner and giving the defending World Series champions another right arm on the mound.

Martinez, who failed to sign a deal heading into the 2009 season after posting  5-5 mark with a 5.61 ERA for the New York Mets last year, should ease the stress on a pitching staff that has lost Brett Myers and Antonio Bastardo to injury.

The Phillies are expected to make the announcement on Wednesday.
